Connecting Classrooms, Making Memories:

Building Bonds Across the Channel!

Located in the charming town of Pont L’Evêque, right in the heart of the Pays d’Auge region of central Normandy, we are dedicated to fostering connections between schools from the United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland, and France.

Our unique program offers the concept of pen-pal exchanges throughout the year, culminating in an exciting French trip where your students will visit the French school. This provides them with the opportunity to experience French school life firsthand and meet their pen-pals ‘for real’!

This can pave the way for long-term relationships between schools, as teachers from both sides build connections. We are proud to have the backing of the Deputy of Calvados Jérémie Patrier-Leitus and the Département de Calvados for this enriching initiative, and have an ever-expanding list of French schools that would like to participate.

Our region is blessed with a wide variety of activities to enhance your tour. Normandy’s rich history is brought to life through interactive museums, while market mornings, chocolate museums, and cheese factories offer a taste of local culture and language immersion. Additionally, exciting activity centres and theme parks are all within easy reach to complete your trip with fun and adventure.

We have an extensive list of French primary and secondary schools that are keen to participate in our programme, looking forward to welcoming visiting school groups into their classrooms.

Your group can spend time in-class with French students of the same school year-group to engage with linguistic activities that are planned in advance through regular contact between the teachers involved. A mixture of class-room based activities, sports/games activities, and creative music/art activities can break down the language barrier and help new friendships to form.

In advance of the tour we can arrange video links as a fun way to prepare the visit, and pen-pal correspondence can take place through the year too. The ultimate aim is that the students will have already got to know one another a little before the tour takes place, making the experience of meeting and working together all the more meaningful.

There is also the opportunity for the students to enjoy a traditional school canteen four-course lunch together (French-style: starter/main/cheese/dessert!).

Medieval History – The famous Bayeux Tapestry Museum and the Château Guillaume Le Conquerant (William the Conqueror’s castle in Falaise) reveal the dramatic history of Normandy. Mont Saint Michel is a magical experience nearby.

Modern History – The D-Day Landing Beaches can be experienced via the circular cinema Arromanches 360 and the beach below, which still contains the remnants of the artificial harbour from WW2.

Prehistory – Exploring ‘Jurassic Normandy’, the Paléospace l’Odyssée at Villers-sur-Mer organise fascinating dinosaur and fossil workshops, followed by a beach visit where the children can hunt for fossils.

Cheese – The Pays d’Auge is renowned for its four cheeses – Neufchâtel, Pont l’Evêque, Livarot, and Camembert.  At the Village Fromager in Livarot, children can learn about the art of cheese-making with tastings at the end.

Chocolate – The Drakkar Chocolate Museum in Bayeux organise tours for children to learn about these famous regional delicacies.

Market Morning – Traditional French markets are found all over our region.  The ‘Marchée aux Poissons’ in Trouville-sur-Mer is engaging as the fishermen unload their catches directly onto the quayside

The viking-themed amusement park Festyland is always a hit with school groups, with a lovely range of rides suitable for all levels of confidence.

The stunning Suisse Normande (the area of Normandy reminiscent of the Swiss Alps) is home to the Ouilly Loisirs activity centre, proposing aerial trekking, kayaking, geo-caching and archery.

Not forgetting Normandy’s one-and-only bobsleigh circuit Clecy Gliss!

Our organisation also organises music tours for UK schools and music services. An entirely optional (but potentially very exciting!), part of your tour could therefore be a musical element organised through our musical connections.

This might be a tour of a music conservatoire with a short performance given by the conservatoire’s senior students, or attending a concert given by one of the visiting UK school orchestras or choirs at one of the region’s heritage sites.

We could alternatively organise a collaborative singing project, bringing your school alongside a local school to meet, rehearse, and perform some songs together, which have been prepared in advance by both schools.

We work with a range of fabulous accommodation centres, and with over 350 beds available we can welcome groups of all shapes and sizes.  Our centres are ideally equipped for children and youth groups, with sports facilities and extensive grounds for quality down-time, and complete security regarding dietary requirements and safeguarding.

Domaine de Soignolles is perfect for smaller groups, a popular wedding venue with beautiful grounds and facilities for children.

Hermitage Saint Therese is a large centre next to the magnificent Basilica Saint Therese de Lisieux, within walking distance of many of the partnership schools.

Maison Saint Georges can accommodate very large groups, and is based within school grounds in the pretty countryside town of Orbec.

We have developed the activities highlighted into a range of fully itemised and costed itineraries which we can share with you, adapting as required to best fit your format.  A tour to the Pays d’Auge can be easily adapted to suit all budgets.  We can look after every detail of the tour planning and booking process, and then look after your group during the tour itself.

You can click on these following links for more Testimonials and News items from our website pages dedicated to visiting music groups.

We look forward to hearing from you if you would like any further information, and perhaps welcoming your school to the Pays d’Auge in the future!
